Kevin61-year-old Kevin, is an extremely active man, who enjoys all sports and travelling. He drives a tanker, collecting waste and delivering fresh water for a living.

But in 2016, Kevin started to get severe pains in his right knee and his left hip which severely inhibited his active lifestyle and was affecting his ability to do his job.

His GP sent Kevin to have an MRI scan which showed he had damaged his MCL – medial cruciate ligament. He was advised that the pain in his left hip might be due to putting extra load on his hip to alleviate the pain in his knee.   His ligament was repaired successfully, and he had hoped the pain in his hip would cease. However, the pain in his hip only got worse.

Kevin went back to see his GP who sent him for an X-ray which showed that he needed a hip replacement. His GP referred him to Mr Vedi at BMI Bishops Wood Hospital.

Kevin met Mr Vedi and they discussed his problem and the difficulties he was experiencing. He was sent for an X-ray and Mr Vedi advised him immediately that he would need a full hip replacement. He gave Kevin some different alternatives including the possibility of a short-term fix.

Mr Vedi also explained very clearly all the benefits and the downside of a total hip replacement.  Taking Mr Vedi’s advice and recommendation, Kevin decided that a full hip replacement was the way forward.

At the end of May 2019, Mr Vedi performed the operation at Bishops Wood Hospital with no complications.

Kevin says: “The care I received at Bishops Wood was second to none. I was taken back to my room and later that day Mr Vedi and his anaesthetist visited me and advised me the operation went well and it was now down to me. That very evening the physio came, got me out of bed, and assisted me with walking.”

Over the following two days the physio had Kevin walking on crutches and teaching him how to go up and down stairs. Kevin was allowed home from hospital just three nights after the operation, issued with a set of exercises to complete every day four times a day.

Kevin concludes “Mr Vedi made a statement to me when we agreed the process that has stuck in my mind.  He said that a successful outcome of such an operation was just 10% down to him and 90% down to me, the patient. But I must say that the 10% performed by Mr Vedi is massive and I can only praise him and his team for the advice, care and attention they gave me. I am so grateful for what you have done for me. I am now well into my rehabilitation and getting back to my active lifestyle.  I am walking every day, doing my exercises, back riding my bike and am pain free!”
