Gillian, a keen cyclist, and walker is thrilled to be back on the road with her outdoor club, after complex knee replacement surgery with Mr Vedi.

64-year-old Gillian was only 17 when she had an accident which tore her cruciate ligament in half and damaged her cartilage. Over the years she suffered from a severely arthritic knee and had to endure five separate surgeries. As Gillian didn’t drive, she relied on walking and cycling to get around. But when she began walking in agony for the mile trek to the shops and the pain was keeping her awake at night, Gillian decided to seek help.

Several friends who had been treated by Mr Vedi highly recommended him – so in February 2020 Gillian had her initial consultation, having an Xray and MRI confirming the severity of her osteoarthritis. Gillian found Mr Vedi to be very pleasant, calmly explaining all the options, and once deciding on total knee replacement, she felt completely safe in his hands.

Gillian said, “Mr Vedi says it as it is - I really like that type of person as you know exactly where you are with him.”

Gillian initially tried a cortisone injection which didn’t work so well and so she agreed to have knee replacement surgery, which she had in June at BMI Bishops Wood Hospital.

Gillian wore a leg brace for the first nine weeks due to her patella tendon repair, and she would use crutches to walk about. Once her leg brace was off, Gillian’s physio encouraged her get out and about and instead she used walking poles for support.

Three months after surgery, Gillian could walk for three miles and cycle for five and then one month later – Gillian built this up to a five-mile walk and 15 miles on her bike.

Six months later Gillian is back to thirty-mile bike rides and ten-mile walks. Gillian concluded, “I would just like you to know how grateful I am and to thank you so much for my new knee. You are a brilliant surgeon and you worked so hard to give me the best possible outcome. Not only with my knee replacement - but removing old metal work and repairing my patella tendon at the same time. It gives me such joy to be able to walk without constant pain – completely pain free – Wonderful! Thank you!”
