22-year-old back playing football after knee arthroscopy surgery

22-year-old back playing football after knee arthroscopy surgerySam Turner was only 22 when he had to have knee arthroscopy surgery at Spire Thames Valley Hospital with Mr Vedi.

Sam’s problems started when he was 12 - he split his knee open whilst playing football in the Sunday League, falling over the drain cover on the side of the pitch. He had his leg stitched up and tried to get back to normal.

But Sam was not able to walk and had to stop playing his much-loved football. Sam was in such pain and each time he went to his GP they said it was growth pains – he had X-rays and even an ultrasound, but nothing showed up. Sam was 15, in lots of pain and could not put any pressure on his knee. Sam was missing meeting up with his friends and doing things a normal 15-year-old should be able to do.

Through his medicolegal claim, Sam was able to get a second opinion and was referred to Mr Vedi. Mr Vedi did investigations, including an MRI which showed Sam had a meniscal tear and patella tendinopathy. Mr Vedi decided Sam needed an arthroscopy and PRP injection – which he had as a one-day in-patient.

Sam recovered well and in four weeks with the help of physio was able to go for a light jog. After six weeks, Sam felt really mobile and was able to go for longer jogs and started slowly playing football again.

Sam said, “From the age of 13 my life had been put on hold. Then I met Mr Vedi who was the answer to all my problems. I am now playing football as a right -back defender for a Wembley team on a Saturday with my old friends and I am also training as well on Tuesdays. I’m loving it and feeling great.”

Sam continued, “I can’t speak more highly of him - Mr Vedi really is someone you can put your trust in, and he knows exactly what he is doing. My whole experience was fantastic - everything was well explained, and the follow-up care was great. Thank you for everything Mr Vedi.”
